A Sonnet for Contemporary Proverbs by Meredith King

How best should I profess my love to her?
A bouquet of flowers might do it best.
Or should I buy the most expensive fur?
A lovely brooch to sit upon her chest.

I might be looking at this problem wrong.
Buying affection is a tricky game.
For money does not keep devotion long.
Plus, my taste in presents might well be lame.

I’ll write that bitch a sonnet, that’s the trick.
Bitches love sonnets; it’s a simple truth.
A love poem will get me laid right quick.
Perhaps some head she’ll give to me, forsooth!

While gifts may bring some tears into her eyes,
A sonnet gets between a bitch’s thighs.
