Says the blind wolf to me –
Follow my footsteps
Thick
Sunk inches deep
In winter’s tears
He takes me
On some ponderous journey
Through a forest
With no eyes
No sound
Save for the echo
Of his breath
In my ears
A drum
Beating against my brain
Reminder that gasping for air
Is all too familiar
I am lost.
Given to whims of fancy
Slipping under sheets
Acting out some fallacy
When all I want is a song
That heart’s melody
Tapping on my ribs
Singing
Sweet sanctuary in your arms
But here –
The wolf jumps
And I follow
An abyss so deep
I am swallowed whole.
