The Second Annual Hands On Literary Festival & Masquerade Ball will take place this December 28, 2014 to January 1, 2015 in New Orleans, LA. As we have only a few weeks left to propose a panel, paper, and reading, as well as for our early bird registration, we thought we’d share a few reasons we think New Orleans for New Year’s is EXACTLY where you should be this year.
1. Its New Year’s in New Orleans! Need we say more?
2. We are offering a Master Class with the Godfather of creative nonfiction, Lee Gutkind.
3. Our theme this year is Silver & Gold: Wealth & Economics in Creative Writing & Literature, and we’re having a silver & gold themed masquerade ball on New Year’s Eve to close the conference. This means no wondering about what to do on New Year’s Eve, AND all your friends will be jealous of your Facebook posts about it.
4. We offer a relaxed egalitarian format with a lot of opportunities for presenting your work.
5. 25 cent oysters just down the street. And also all of the tasty food of New Orleans on your doorstep. Indeed, with two receptions, a book launch, and a brunch on new Year’s Day this just might be the tastiest conference you’ve EVER been to.
6. With a focus on local and independent publishers, as well as a Master Class with Neil White on publishing, this festival could jump start your career. Not that far along yet? That’s ok. This conference encourages student attendance, and is also offering a generative Master Class, designed to get the words out of you, and on the page.
7. Mixing and mingling with fellow authors! See the above 25 cent oysters 🙂
Ok, so I have to admit, number 7 is probably my favorite, and the reason I started this festival. I believe that camaraderie trumps competition, and I wanted to create a relaxed, convivial atmosphere where writers, readers, and scholars could come together and talk about all of the things that are important to our work. I really hope you’ll consider joining us this year, and being part of the Hands On Festival family!
